Sydney Pictures

Our first few days in Sydney were cloudy.  This is the Sydney Harbour Bridge from Circular Quay.

The first of many pictures of the Sydney Opera House.

The Circular Quay area of downtown Sydney taken from the Opera House.

We stopped by Mr. Liquor Lunacy to pick up some drinks for the hotel room.

The Rocks district with the Sydney Harbour Bridge, taken from our hotel room in downtown.

The Harbour Bridge with the ship Svenen.  We went out on the Svenen for the evening on Australia Day - the equivalent of Fourth of July in the US.

The four of us on Australia Day - doing our best to blend in.

Sydney Opera House on Australia Day - January 26.  The ferry traffic in and out of Circular Quay is amazing to watch.

A historic building in the Rocks district - converted to four outdoor restaurants.  The ship masts and rigging give it an old look.  That is the Harbour Bridge in the background.

Australians are fully committed to recycling.

Lauren and Cheryl on the cruise we took Australia Day evening.

The kitchen of our apartment in the Drummoyne district of Sydney.  We stayed here for two weeks.

Several times we took the ferry from our apartment into downtown.  This is the mouth of Darling Harbour, a center of activity during the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

It was more convenient to take the bus into downtown from our apartment in Sydney.

Many Australians view England as the mother country.  Here is a statue of Queen Victoria in downtown Sydney.

We visited the Sydney Aquarium.

We were impressed by the many forms of public transportation in Sydney.  Here is picture of the monorail built for the Olympics five years ago.  There is also a subway, light and heavy rail systems, a solid bus system and multiple forms of water transportation.

Cheryl and Lauren appear to have won this game of Scrabble.

This shop across the street from our apartment in Sydney had a great selection of wines.

We visited the Royal Botanic Gardens and found wild cockatoos and other birds looking for food.

This was our apartment in the Drummoyne district of Sydney.

Todd & Cheryl one evening - taken from the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The day we went to the zoo, it was hot, so the breeze off the water was nice.

We took this ferry to the zoo.  It is typical of the kind we saw in Sydney Harbour.

Lauren and Katie at the entrance to the zoo.

We learned that the koala sleeps for 19 hour per day - this one was at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney.

A wallaby at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney.  We also saw kangaroos, but those picture didn't turn out very well.

We saw three penguins that looked a lot like Cheryl, Lauren and Katie.

We spent one afternoon at Manly Beach.

Cheryl took this picture.

The girls had fun swimming...

...and playing in the sand.

We visited a Coney Island-style amusement park just across the harbor from downtown.

Luna Park's main promenade.

Lauren on the carousel.

...and one last picture of the Opera House for good measure.
